How To Make Products at Home

It is true that cannabis prices have gone up significantly over the past few years. For some users it is simply unaffordable to purchase a 100mg edible for $25 when they may need 200mg per day. Luckily making many products at home is relatively easy and much more cost effective. In addition when you begin making your own products the options become endless. You may end up producing some beautiful creations!

I recommend using a pre-made butter or concentrated cannabis oil that has been packaged into a syringe-like container. These products often contain close to 1000mg for anywhere from $40-$70. Loose concentrate in a jar is very difficult to measure when infusing your own products. I would not recommend making your own butter as the odor can permeate not just your house but may even leak over to your neighbors houses. Also there is no way to determine dose or concentration for homemade butter. By purchasing products from a dispensary you can be certain of the exact dose.

Some of the easiest products to create at home are edible and topical products. Edibles could include baked goods, smoothies, and capsules. Topical products include topical rubs or massage oil, suppositories, and bath soak formulas. The best part about making your own products is the ability to tailor the products effects, formulas and strength to meet your needs.

For example, my cat had skin cancer and I knew topical cannabis would help slow the spread, provide pain relief and act as a localized anti-inflammatory. However a lot of herbs used in topical products are not good for cat or dog skin, being too acidic or stimulating. Also the strength of topical products available was not significant enough for the extent of the condition I was attempting to treat. I decided to produce my own topical using a soft topical with herbs I knew to be appropriate such as arnica, calendula, aloe and castor oil. I then made small batches, around 10ml, of highly concentrated topical by using a small glass jar and blow dryer to warm and soften the topical. I would then add a ¼ syringe of oil to each small batch and warm and mix the ingredients until they were well blended.
One item that is very difficult to find in strong enough doses are suppositories.

Suppositories are ideal for any condition that is centralized in the pelvic or anal region. Administering the medicine directly to the area allows for quick relief and much higher bio-availability, or the amount of medicine actually absorbed and utilized by the body. Because the cannabinoids do not get processed through the liver like edible products are, the user can take much higher doses with far less psycho-active response.

To make suppositories all you need are molds which can be purchased online, organic cocoa butter and cannabis oil. Because you are making your own you can use any ratio of CBD to THC desired by getting one THC rich and one CBD rich syringe or oil. To determine the strength of each unit you can divide the total cannabinoids used by the final amount of units produced. Just make sure to blend the ingredients very well! Another favorite topical item of mine is bath soaks. To make a bath soak simply infuse the oil in epsom salts and add any other herbs you desire such as eucalyptus, peppermint or rose oil.

Edible products are where the fun really comes in. With the pre-infused oil or butter you can make almost anything. The oil can be put in capsules for simplicity. I heard of a customer poking a hole in grapes, inserting a small amount of oil and freezing the grapes for tiny popsicles. You can make popcorn, baked goods, pasta sauce, energy boosting smoothies, or any other creation you can imagine. The most important thing when making your own edible products is to blend well, and create equal proportions so you can determine the dose.
